Snow Farm # 3

This is where we’ve been picking up straw bales that have broken and John wants them gone. We’re happy to be able to pitch in. It’s an older dairy farm, actually 6 generations have been farming the land. they’ve downsized milkers and mostly grow hay for sale to other bigger farms and, as you can see, there’s a lot of it under the hoops. The land is mostly suitable for hay and not plowing and planting row crops. They used to have 40 milking cows and are down to 13 now and John says it’s more of a hobby now. i assume that means it’s not raising any money to speak of.

This is 9″ x 12″ using pencil and watercolor on cotton paper. Peaches is going to add some poetry to this painting and the ones I do for 3 other farms and then they’ll go into a book. We hope to get a grant for our efforts from NYS for recognizing farms and farmers for their ongoing contributions to society.
