This is a small section of virgin hardwoods near Ithaca. There’s some old maples in there that a forester thinks are probably 400 years old. Others in the 200 year range. The one in the background here has a huge girth. Maybe 4 people holding hands could reach around it. we walked with the grandkids around the loop, said some prayer at the big circle of trees and played hide and seek on the way back to the car. The only missing element would have been a including a swim to round out the excursion. It’s 9″ x 12″ using pencil, watercolor and gouache on cotton paper.
