Close to Home, Greenhouse

On a sunny day this is the most pleasant place to be in winter. Warm, lots of color, water trickling about, fish in the tank feeding the plants with their effluent and some lettuce blooming for the table and salads. There’s bee balm and avocado trees also. Succulents and poinsettias. It still gets too cold in here to really produce a lot and mostly because we don’t heat the space. Well, on really cold days and nights there’s a little space heater that’ll keep the frost at bay. I always hoped the big tank of water would provide enough warmth but after 3 weeks of zero sunshine in freezing temperatures it can’t compete. A sunny day might reach into the 70’s but it doesn’t last long. That’s the way we role in central NY. It’s 8″ x 8″ using pencil, watercolor and gouache on cotton paper.
