Close to Home # 65

Another from yesterday’s walk along our shores. The water’s edge is out quite q ways from shore and there’s new ice on the lake that goes out just so far and abruptly stops. All subtle coloring in the snow and very deserted…what was that? I swear it was an otter that ran across the snow and then ducked in to this crack in the shore ice. You can just make out its tracks at the bottom edge. There was a set coming out of the crevasse and another leading back to safety. I walked on the inlet ice till arriving at the entrance to the marina and there were holes in the ice there so back on land for me. But again I spotted a little head peeking out from behind the abutments that hold the harbor entrance in place. I have to assume it’s another otter even though it looked like the other one. Too far away to hurry back here underwater I thought. Who knew they were in the area? It’s 6″ x 8″ using pencil, watercolor and gouache on cotton paper.
