“Close to Home # 36”

IMG_4977.jpg

At last, here’s my friend chicory. First sketch of this summer’s season. I love this flower. It’s so tough, growing in the worst soil alongside roads or driveways in full sun, minimal water. What insect is it trying to attract with this luscious color? This is a little patch alongside our house that is probably good for pollinators as that is Margot’s interest for the last few years. The white ones look like  a type of aster but I don’t know for sure. And being rendered as amorphous as they are it’ll be hard to diagnose for the knowledgable ones out there.                            This is 9″ x 12″ using pencil, watercolor and gouache on cotton paper.
