Excavator in the Fall

IMG_0741.jpg

I was waiting for the electrical inspector to come for a nearby small house and banged this bright sketch out in the interim. It’s an old part of the quarry and they are rapidly filling it back up with rock from another job in town. So they have cut stone from this quarry for years to, among other things, build Cornell University. Now it’s time to reuse the space so they fill it back in with material from another construction project for housing near Cornell. Truck after truck came and dumped their loads and the excavator spread it all around ever so neatly. The colors were spectacular even in an area that is no longer noted for it’s natural beauty.   It’s 9″ x 12″ using watercolor and pencil on paper.
